Savour Cowichan Festival - Events at Merridale
Find out about all of the fun, special activities we will have going on here at merridale as part of the Savour Cowichan festival!
September 28th; October 4th & 5th – Complimentary Distillery tours
We are not normally open to the public in the distillery, but during the weekend days of Savour Cowichan, we open the big wood doors for guided tours at 2:00. Learn about the art of distillation in our wood-fired still, as we walk you through the reduction process of spirits, and the reasons why our slow chilled batch methods make a difference to the smoothness. Samples of our spirits and cocktails will be available at the ciderbar throughout the day.
Daily from September 26th – October 4th Complimentary Cider Tastings and Tours
For the months of August and September, we are partnering with the Canucks Autism Network, donating all our tasting fees to the foundation. Money given to this charity enriches the lives of Cowichan Valley families living with autism. While tastings during Savour Cowichan will be complimentary, we still encourage anyone to donate what they can to help this worthy cause.
Complementary tours of the farm, orchard and cellar will also be available. Children are always welcome at merridale – to encourage family visits, we have a fun interactive faery and gnome hunt for the young. Complementary drinks for children will be available for children at the tasting bar so they can join mom and dad. Bring a healthy appetite of curiosity. There is much to do for free!
September 26th – October 4th – Happy Hour and Lunches in the Bistro
Join us in the bistro Mondays through Thursdays for Happy Hour from 3 to 6pm. Small plates, tall drinks, good deals. We will also be open for lunch every day during the festival, so if you haven’t experienced a meal at Merridale yet, now is the perfect time.
Sunday September 28th – 10am - 5pm - The Cowichan Valley BIG Ride!
This annual bike ride event begins and ends at Merridale - Cyclists choose 50km or 100km Cowichan Valley winery and farm tour.
Between 100-200 riders expected - Organized by Cycle Therapy, Sandra Beggs and Gord Hutchings.
Sunday September 28th - 11am - 5pm - Artists in the Orchard
This Sunday, we will be joined by several local artists sharing their craft in the merridale orchard. Join us as painters, potters, woodcarvers and more help us showcase just some of the locally grown talent that the Cowichan Valley is renowned for.
Among the artists that will be in attendance are:
Cheryl Painter - Cheryl lives in the beautiful Cowichan Valley; and yes - as ironic as it may seem, 'Painter' really is her surname! From an early age and perhaps due to artistic genes, a career as an artist always seemed to be in the cards for Cheryl. With the beautiful Cowichan Valley as her home base, she uses escapades with her family for inspiration. Local parks, various spots in the Lower Mainland, and the BC Interior provide a kaleidoscope of subject matter.
Jo Ludwig & Peggy Bracket - Glass forms and jewelry. Living on Canada's West Coast, in Victoria, B.C., Jo Ludwig spends most of his time creating ToBs. "ToB" is short for Thing of Beauty. Each ToB is a one-of-a-kind art glass vessel that is eye-popping and captivating inside and outside.
Karen Trickett - Karen has been designing, building, repairing and finishing furniture for over 20 years. Automotive projects include interior and exterior trim and restoration work. Technical skill combined with a well equipped workshop and design studio allow her to integrate a client’s needs into beautifully made furniture or interior trim in many styles. All of her work reflects the fine detail and high quality customary in hand crafted furniture.
Susanne Andrey - Susanne was born and raised in Ontario and now lives and paints on Vancouver Island, BC. She studied at the Three Schools of Art in Toronto, and with Marilyn Ridsdale and Robyn Foster both of Nanaimo. Susanne paints daily in her home studio. Her art captures the striking scenery of Canada’s west coast and she has found the beauty in painting our local area lakes, landscapes and underwater vistas. She creates detail in her paintings and brings reality to life. Abstract works and pet portraits are also new for Susanne and show a fun side.
Patricia Dawes - Patricia was born and raised in Ontario and now lives on Vancouver Island, B.C. Her art education started with renowned Canadian artists Marilyn Ridsdale and Robyn Foster.
Patricia paints daily in her home and challenges herself by working on different subject matter ranging from detailed buildings and landscapes to vibrant abstracts
We will also have on display works from most of the members of the Cowichan Valley Artisans group, who for different reasons are unable to attend. Additional artists participating will be announced in the coming days.
